PARIS DESIGN WEEK 2025

PIERRE MARIE

Yves Salomon Éditions unveils a series of limited-edition works by Parisian artist and designer Pierre Marie at Milan Design Week 2025. This unprecedented collection, comprising seventeen unique shearling intarsia pieces, was entirely crafted in the house's Parisian ateliers. "With Yves Salomon Éditions, we aim to build a bridge between design and fashion," explains Yves Salomon. "After our work with Pierre Chapo Création in 2024, we were captivated by Pierre Marie's universe, by his drawings, by this eclecticism that embraces Art Nouveau as well as the Memphis movement and beyond. A true affinity emerged, and we gave Pierre Marie carte blanche to appropriate our expertise while challenging our ateliers with the complexity of his compositions."

Presented in the medieval courtyard at 7 via Santo Spirito, this dreamlike collection includes seating, poufs, cushions, throws, and lighting, in which Pierre Marie's singular ornamentation is expressed with silversmith-like meticulousness. The artist unfolds a bucolic fresco where sky and earth meet through two themes: "The Meadow" and "The Firmament." The Meadow evokes an enchanted nature, woven with looped ribbons, geometric foliage, and floral corollas, while The Firmament lifts the gaze to the heavens, where a ballet of Western stars, striped pearls, and cashmere arabesques composes a textile cosmogony.

A figurative homage to childhood memories

The collection's centerpieces, two seating pieces in Spanish merino shearling, stand out with a singular figurative interpretation evoking the very silhouette of a sheep, reminiscent of childhood, a symbol of innocence and purity. Pierre Marie thus follows in the footsteps of François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne's bestiary, Renate Müller's playful furniture, and Gaetano Pesce's free and ingenious experiments. Each seating piece, entirely covered in complex shearling intarsia, seems nestled in a bed of green grass, composed of a meticulous assembly of 1,200 pieces of woolly leather, in a palette of burnt peach, honey, cornflower blue, olive, chocolate, aubergine, lilac, and chartreuse. "The material guided the design," confides Pierre Marie. "It was essential that the shearling be omnipresent, without any other visible element. I wanted absolute continuity to highlight the savoir-faire of the Yves Salomon ateliers."

A graphic language inspired by pastoralism

Following the pastoral pictorial tradition of the 19th century, Pierre Marie revisits classic motifs: shepherds, sheep, and the pastel ribbons of Italian Easter pastries. Each piece is designed as a textile landscape meticulously drawn and hand-cut. This graphic vocabulary is expressed through cushions, cylindrical poufs, and monumental throws. The most imposing, a 260 × 200 cm model lined with cashmere, made of over 5,000 different shearling pieces, serves as a matrix for the entire collection. "Everything started from the design of this throw. All the graphic elements are present there. I then extracted these elements to compose each piece, down to the sheep's eye and the details of its face." — Pierre Marie A lantern-shaped suspension lamp, clad in shearling, is also featured, as well as a pair of cylindrical poufs on which the "La Prairie" motifs unfold in a heraldic interplay dominated by a central medallion. This collection offers a poetic and playful vision, merging Pierre Marie's poetic approach and the expertise of the Yves Salomon ateliers.
